“Education is Success”

An opportunity to work in the only non-private Academy in London that offers both International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes at KS5

Our School

Westminster Academy is an Outstanding International Business and Enterprise academy and IB World School serving a multi-ethnic community of 11-18 year olds in Central London. The Academy is proud of its work to improve outcomes for students in an inclusive, supportive environment. As a member of the collaborative WA community you will have the opportunity to work alongside an exceptionally talented group of colleagues who are committed to continued professional growth and improvement of the student experience.

Our Maths department

Our Maths department has transformed student outcomes and succeeded in inspiring a love of maths learning at Westminster Academy through the dedication of staff, their exceptional subject knowledge and the department’s forward-thinking approach to data and the curriculum. The Maths department is highly regarded among our student body for the care and personal support offered to students. We are now looking for an innovative teacher to join this successful team.

Our Maths curriculum and pedagogy

The Maths department achieves outstanding results at GCSE. In 2019, before the pandemic, we achieved 75% of grades 9-4 and 27% grades 9-7. Students have continued to achieve impressive outcomes during the pandemic, thanks to the success of our remote learning provision. The department prides itself on its belief that every student can be successful at maths; as such we teach in mixed ability settings. We have a strong seven year curriculum, which builds depth in knowledge through problem solving and mastery, and allows students to explore mathematics outside of the classroom through regional and national competitions with the UKMT. The department has been the driving force behind the Academy's adoption of the Google suite, developing the use of technology in the classroom through chromebooks and leading staff training to share best practice in this area.

International Baccalaureate Maths offers teachers specialised training with the IB, challenging content and the chance to approach maths with a global perspective. We are a unique department since all of our Sixth Form students study a post-16 maths course, supporting our vision of maths being an essential life skill. Using technology, students are encouraged to probe the reasons for learning and the relevance of maths in the world around them. It is a matter of pride that we offer both the Application and Interpretation, and Analysis and Approaches courses at Standard Level, and the prestigious Analysis and Approaches Higher Level course for both IBDP and IBCP students.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • An excellent classroom teacher who is committed to the success of each individual student

  • Experienced in teaching Maths with a relevant university degree

  • Able to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to their own professional growth and development

What we offer:

  • A competitive salary and benefits package

  • Sign up incentives available for experienced IB educators

  • An excellent programme of continuing professional development

  • Relevant training with the International Baccalaureate for teachers of Key Stage 5

  • A commitment to staff well being, including access to the local gym, weekly fitness sessions, staff social events, Perkbox membership with associated benefits.
