It is an exciting time to join the Expressive Arts department at Westminster Academy. We are committed to developing young people through the arts; in the last two years we have increased Expressive Arts provision and engaged more and more students through outstanding opportunities thanks to the relentless energy, industry knowledge and infectious enthusiasm of staff. We are now looking for an innovative Director of Learning to lead this dynamic team in their next phase of development.

Westminster Academy is an Outstanding International Business and Enterprise academy and International Baccalaureate World School serving a multi-ethnic community in Central London. Our ethos is grounded in the IB Learner Profile; we encourage intellectual curiosity, entrepreneurial spirit and foster a real sense of communal endeavour. The Academy has gained national recognition for its work to improve outcomes for students, and its aspirational and inclusive vision. As a member of the WA community you will have the opportunity to shape the future of the Academy whilst working alongside an exceptionally talented group of teachers and leaders.

We are proud that our Key Stage 3 curriculum allows every Year 7 and 8 student to study Drama, Art, Dance, Music and Food every week. The Expressive Arts team at Westminster Academy all play an integral role in promoting wellbeing and developing students’ character through extra-curricular provision and productions. Performance opportunities offered throughout the year are a collaboration of all five Expressive Arts subjects, helping students form friendships across year groups and increase confidence in expressing themselves, as well as developing an appreciation of the arts and further embedding a culture of Expressive Arts at the Academy. Performances culminate in our summer musical and Christmas concert. Beyond the building, the department eagerly takes advantage of opportunities with external link organisations for student development in their subject pathway.

The ideal candidate would be an ambitious leader with a specialism in Art who would continue building on the success of the department and further improve outcomes. They will be enthusiastic, driven, and an excellent classroom practitioner who is committed to student success and development. Experience of leading a core subject, and planning and delivering the teaching of GCSE lessons is essential as the job will involve working closely with all colleagues within the department to continue developing our existing provision. The willingness to lead and contribute to extra-curricular activities is also desirable. If you can offer an absolute focus on raising educational standards coupled with a passion for learning, then Westminster Academy would like to hear from you.

What we offer:

  • An excellent programme of continuing professional development
  • An innovative educational concept
  • The opportunity to develop personally and professionally
  • The chance to shape the future of the subject
  • A commitment to staff well being, including access to the local gym, weekly fitness sessions, staff social events and the end of term ‘WA Big Breakfast’
  • Perkbox membership, which offers a package of benefits for staff such as retail discounts, savings on gym membership, cinema tickets and free mobile phone insurance
