Two WA basketball teams top the league!

At the end of Term 4, we were over the moon to see our Greenhouse Basketball U14 Girls team and our U16 Boys team become Westminster LBA league champions!

On the Wednesday of LBA finals week, our U14 girls played the American School in London (ASL), defeating them with a decisive 71-6 scoreline. The team were confident, having only lost one match all season, but even so were not expecting this score. “It was stressful, but we scored a lot of points and we all got medals.” By all accounts it is an incredibly committed team, with some of the Year 7 players training every day with the ambition of playing for the U16 team. They explained, “We enjoy basketball because it makes us feel alive! It gets us out the house and keeps us happy.”

Two days later the U16 boys were up against St Augustine's and the game was much closer to call, with everything coming down to the last quarter. In the final six minutes of the game WA went on a 12 to 0 run and within the final minute scored the winning point to finish 72-70 up against St Augustine’s - what an exciting match! Team captain, Malachi (Year 10) reflected, “We came from losing games at the start of the season to becoming really good. We started really coming together in practice and focusing not just as individuals, but as a team. I feel really proud of everyone.”

Students can now see the two shiny trophies in our cabinet in the marketplace. Congratulations!
