Lord Mayor Visits Westminster Academy

On 31st October, we had the pleasure of welcoming to WA the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Charles Bowman. The Lord Mayor was accompanied by his wife, Samantha Bowman - the Lady Mayoress - and his advisor.

We started the tour by Mr Farmbrough giving a short presentation about the school’s progress and achievements. Mr Farmbrough talked about recent successes and highlighted that Westminster Academy is one of the few state schools in the country that offers the International Baccalaureate. Soon after, we took the Lord Mayor and his entourage on a tour of the school grounds. During the tour, we explained to the Lord Mayor about our school values and the different houses (Turing, Mahler, Franklin, Keats and Mirzakhani).

After we finished the tour, the Lord Mayor made a presentation to the Year 10s about his role in the city as a international ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services sector. He stressed the importance of FinTech in the British economy. He also told us about his travels around the world to promote British businesses.

The Lord Mayor talked briefly about the Lord Mayor Show which is occurring on 11th November at 11:00am. This is the show that inspired him to become the Lord Mayor. He explained how fun the show is and how there are dancers, fireworks and all kinds of entertainment.

The most fun part was whilst in the dance studio when we taught the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress how to floss!

It was a memorable day.
