16 - 19 Bursary Fund

Sixth Form students may be entitled to financial support during their time at Westminster Academy by accessing the 16 to 19 Bursary Fund. Continue reading to find out about eligibility and how to apply.

What is the 16-19 Bursary?

The 16 to 19 Bursary Fund provides financial support to help students pay for the costs of participating in their Sixth Form education. Funding is provided by the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and administered by Westminster Academy.

Who is eligible?

There are two types of bursary with individual criteria for both:

1) Vulnerable Group Bursary (up to £1200 awarded) for students who are:

  • In or have recently left local authority care;

  • Receiving Income Support or Universal Credit because they are financially supporting themselves; or

  • Receiving Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in their own right as well as either Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or Universal Credit in their own right

2) Discretionary Bursary

  • For students whose family or household financial situation means they cannot access the resources they need for learning

  • Awarded by the Academy and assessed upon individual circumstances

What can the bursary be used for?

The fund can be used to pay for things like:

  • Help with transport to and from school

  • Clothing (in line with the Sixth Form business dress code)

  • Books and learning equipment

  • Costs of attending industry placements, work experience, university interviews and open days

Apply for a bursary

All students are welcome to apply for a bursary. Before you apply, please read our bursary guide, then submit your application here.

Conditions

Westminster Academy reserves the right to withhold the bursary if students fail to meet expectations for attendance and behaviour. Students will be required to provide evidence of household income upon application. The school is looking to establish that you are in financial need and, in relation to the discretionary bursary, that you are in need of specific items or services relating to your education.
