WA musicians light up the stage at 'Future Sounds - Battle of the Bands'

At the end of January, we participated in ‘Future Sounds: Battle of the Bands’ at the Rhythm Studio.Black roses battle of the bands

This competition is for young musicians in Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea, and Westminster. It is organised and run by the Tri-borough Music Hub in partnership with The Rhythm Studio, with a host of supporters involved with judging, prizes, and links to the music industry. This was my second time participating in this competition, with my first being when I was in Year 8.

Our band, The Undecided, which consisted of mainly Year 10s, one Year 9, and myself (Year 12), was the first out of the bands from Westminster Academy to perform. We performed the song ‘Supersonic’ by Oasis which went very smoothly and got an amazing reaction from the judges and other bands in the crowd. Right after us was the girls’ band who performed a song by Taylor Swift. After this performance, we stayed to watch the rest of the bands perform. There were many great performances ranging from rock bands to soloists, which we all really enjoyed. Once all of the performances were finished, our Year 10 band, Resonant Frequency performed the song ‘Teddy Picker’ by the Arctic Monkeys to wrap up the performances in our group.

This was a really enjoyable experience for all of us and we have high hopes of making it through to the finals in March, where we will compete with a small number of acts from across the tri-borough at Bush Hall.
