Wonderful GCSE and BTEC results!

2023 gcse1Year 11 students were onsite today to receive their results for GCSE and Level 2 BTEC courses. As has been widely reported, standards in England have returned to the pre-pandemic levels of 2019. Nevertheless, as usual, there is much to celebrate at WA! Overall attainment is higher than 2019, with two students achieving a perfect Attainment score of 90, meaning that they achieved 8 or more grade 9s. An exceptional achievement! More broadly, at the key Basics measure of gaining a grade 9-5 in both Maths and English, WA attainment was in line with outcomes in 2019 and has actually improved for Grade 9-4 compared to 2019!

Thanks to these excellent results, 72% of our students will be able to pursue Level 3 qualifications in September, in a national context where just two thirds of students reach this level.  We are very proud of their achievements!

2023 gcse4These results mean that more than one hundred WA Year 11 students have achieved the grades to be able to remain at WA next year and we look forward to welcoming many of them into our successful IB Sixth Form programmes whilst also wishing all of our former Year 11 students well and assuring their progression to the very best and most appropriate courses possible.

We are also very proud of the achievements of our Year 13 IB Career-Related Programme students who have achieved grades in their BTEC courses well above the pre-pandemic level. This is a fantastic achievement as outcomes nationally are set to return to those seen in 2019 and equips those students to follow a wonderful range of post-secondary pathways.

2023 gcse3These excellent GCSE and Level 2 BTEC results follow equally pleasing IB and Level 3 BTEC results.  Everyone recognises the challenges that secondary students have experienced over the past three years. The fact that WA's Year 11 and 13 students have this year matched and, in many cases, exceeded the results of 2019, is testament to their resilience and hard work, along with the guidance and support of their teachers and their families.

We congratulate all WA Year 11 and 13 students on their impressive academic achievements!
