“Education is Success”

An opportunity to work in one of the few non-private academies in London that offers both International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes at KS5

Our school

Westminster Academy (WA) is an 11-18 academy and IB World School serving a multi-ethnic community in central London. We are one of the few schools in London to offer both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and IB Career-Related Programme in our Sixth Form. True to our mission, “Education is Success”, we strive to give students the tools they will need to fulfil their highest aspirations, to unlock the future pathways of their own choosing, and to value and make a positive impact on the world around them.

The Academy is proud of its work to improve outcomes for students in a supportive, engaging environment.  Classroom teaching and learning and rigorous assessment is enhanced by one-to-one chromebooks and access to a wide range of learning platforms which benefit from AI technology to truly personalise independent learning for students. The school was graded as ‘good’ in its November 2023 Ofsted inspection, which noted the school's 'calm environment in which pupils can learn' and that 'staff are proud to work at the school.' Our Sixth Form was graded ‘Outstanding’, with reference to the 'high quality' educational provision and 'highly ambitious curriculum' embedded through our IB programmes.

WA prides itself on being an inclusive and welcoming community, where students of all faiths, backgrounds and abilities are valued and respected. As a member of the collaborative WA community you will have the opportunity to work alongside an exceptionally talented group of colleagues who are committed to continued professional growth and improvement of the student experience.

Due to the growth of our Science Department, we have been able to make some structural changes which have created flexibility in our leadership positions. We are now looking for an innovative teacher to join this dynamic team.

Top reasons to work at WA

  • A stand-alone academy that has the autonomy to make its own decisions

  • One of the few non fee-paying schools in London offering the world class IBDP and IBCP

  • Centralised approach to behaviour management, enabling our staff to focus on teaching
  • Supportive staff body that works collaboratively
  • Sensible approach to marking and feedback to take staff workload into account

  • WA's own pay scales that are above national teaching pay

  • CPD (little and often) - a genuine commitment to professional learning

  • Planning days as part of INSET that are dedicated for staff to use for planning purposes

  • Active clubs for staff - staff football, staff events and access to local gym

  • Loan for season travel tickets and bicycle scheme

  • Smaller than average class sizes to allow for personalised learning

  • Excellent modern building and facilities

  • Protected curriculum development time

  • End of year staff incentives linked to attendance

  • A supportive and experienced Senior Leadership Team

  • Two-week October half-term break, from October 2025

The ideal candidate will be:

  • An excellent, experienced classroom teacher who is committed to the success of each individual student

  • Experienced in teaching the relevant subject(s) with a relevant university degree

  • Able to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to their own professional growth and development

  • Passionate about their subject to inspire our students

  • We are open to applications from candidates who have experience of all exam boards as we offer training and CPD.

  • We welcome candidates who have experience of delivering the IB curriculum but we are also able to consider candidates without IB experience due to the extensive training we offer.

How To Apply:

  • For further details about the role and an application form, please download the job description and application form linked below.
  • Please send your completed application form to: hrteam@westminsteracademy.org.uk.
  • We do not accept CVs.
  • Closing Date: 18th May 2025
  • Shortlisting: 19th May 2025
  • Interview: W/C 19th May 2025

We may interview candidates ahead of the closing date so early application is advised. The Academy reserves the right to interview and appoint prior to the advertised closing date. The advert may be closed at any time.

Safeguarding

We are committed to safeguarding children and promoting their welfare. As such there may be additional safeguarding requirements and responsibilities depending on the nature of the role advertised and the extent to which the role will involve contact with children. We expect all staff to share our commitment to safeguarding.

A professional social media check may take place to reduce risks to reputation, confidentiality breach and data security. The check identifies a candidate's online presence to look for negative behaviours such as bullying, racism, nudity and excessive bad language.

The post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020, as the work brings employees into contact with children who are regarded by the Act as a vulnerable group. Applicants for any role at Westminster Academy must disclose all spent and unspent convictions.

Equalities statement:

Westminster Academy is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, disability, sex, race, religion or belief, gender reassignment, marriage/civil partnership, pregnancy/maternity, or sexual orientation.

We are inclusive and actively promote equality of opportunity for all with the right mix of talent, skills and potential. We welcome all applications from a wide range of candidates. Selection for roles will be based on individual merit alone.
