Providing young people with nutritious meals during the school day is vital for their health and wellbeing so we are proud of the exciting, healthy range of meals our catering team prepares. Students who are eligible for Free School Meals receive a main course and a dessert each day for free.

Any change in your circumstances could mean that your child becomes eligible for free school meals, and we strongly encourage parents/carers to apply.

Free School Meals vouchers

If your child is entitled to Free School Meals (FSM), you will receive an e-voucher via email for the holiday period. The voucher can be redeemed at ASDA, Aldi, B&M, Farmfoods, Iceland, M&S, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco or Waitrose.

If your e-voucher is not in your inbox by the end of each half term, please check your junk and spam folders. If your e-voucher still hasn’t arrived, please send an email to admin@westminsteracademy.org.uk.

Why should I check if my child is eligible for Free School Meals?

There are several benefits to receiving Free School Meals, so we advise you check if you are eligible!

  • Direct support for your child: Eligible families often receive additional support, such as holiday food vouchers and access to the Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme, providing free activities and meals during school breaks.
  • Health and learning: A nutritious, hot meal every day helps children concentrate better, improves energy levels, and supports long-term health.
  • Financial savings: If your child is eligible for Free School Meals, you will be saving over £500 per year per child.
How applying for Free School Meals benefits our school

When you register for Free School Meals, WA receives extra funding from the government called the Pupil Premium. This extra money allows the school to provide:

  • Extra staffing: Additional teaching assistants or specialist tutors for small-group support.
  • Resources: New books, classroom technology and learning equipment.
  • Enrichment: Subsidised school trips, after-school clubs and music lessons.
  • Wellbeing: Increased pastoral support and mental health resources.
How to apply for Free School Meals

To be eligible to apply for Free School Meals in Westminster, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Parental status: You must be the parent or legal guardian of the child/children.
  • Identification: You need to have a National Insurance number or a National Asylum Support Service (NASS) number.
  • Qualifying benefits: You must be in receipt of one of the following:
    • Universal Credit (with a net household income of less than £7,400)
    • Income Support or Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
    • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
    • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
    • The guarantee element of State Pension Credit
    • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit)

  2. Create a MyWestminster account: You need an account to apply. If you don't have one, you can create it during the application process.
  3. Automatic checks: The system will check your eligibility instantly in most cases.
