Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

At Westminster Academy, we are committed to providing an inclusive environment where all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), are valued equally. We ensure every child has equal opportunities to engage with the curriculum, fostering high aspirations and expectations for all. Our approach involves early identification and assessment of needs, providing tailored support strategies, and collaborating with external agencies and, crucially, with children and their parents. We believe that every teacher shares responsibility for the education and progress of every child, including those with SEND.

The Special Educational Needs Team works diligently to implement the guidance outlined in the SEN Code of Practice (2014) and the Children and Families Act (2014) to effectively support our students in a fully inclusive learning environment. Our comprehensive approach to supporting students with SEND is detailed in our SEND Information Report, which works in conjunction with the City of Westminster's Local Offer to provide a full picture of the support available.

We provide support across the four broad areas of need: Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning, Social, Emotional and Mental Health, and Sensory and/or Physical Needs. Our provision includes in-class differentiation, targeted interventions, and support for students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring smooth transitions between key stages.

Our SEND Team

SENDCo: Ms Huma Wilson

Deputy SENDCo: Ms Amanda Mair

Speech & Language Therapist: Ms Georgia Grieve

A vital part of our support structure involves our dedicated Learning Support Assistants (LSAs). Each LSA holds specific year group responsibilities, enabling them to build strong relationships with students and gain a deep understanding of their individual needs. They play a crucial role in delivering targeted interventions, both in-class and in small groups, to address specific learning gaps and reinforce classroom teaching.

If you would like to meet to discuss your child's needs, please do not hesitate to contact us.
