Back to NewsEmpowering WA's future leaders and entrepreneurs: IB students attend London Business School programme
Over the past two months, fifteen Year 12 students have been attending London Business School for the ‘Guru Lecture’ series or the ‘Power of You’ female leadership programme, experiencing university-style learning and connecting with ambitious like-minded peers.
Knowledge and networking: the Guru Lecture Series
Over the past two months, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Guru Lecture Series at London Business School with other Year 12s.
The series consisted of five lectures on the following topics:
- Judgement and Decisions
- Personal Finance
- How to Get Luck on Your Side
- The Happiness Skillset
- The Entrepreneurial Mindset
What I really liked about all of these topics is how they fit perfectly not just into business and enterprise, but also into our everyday lives. For instance, businesses need to manage their finances well in order to avoid liquidity crises and insolvency, but we also need to make sure we handle our money correctly to prevent unwanted surprises in adult life.
Overall, it was a very interesting and knowledge rich experience, where I not only learned a lot about how university lectures are held, but also got the chance to network with others of a similar mindset to mine. It was definitely worth sacrificing my Wednesdays to attend.

Cultivating leadership skills: The Power of You programme
I had the pleasure of attending the Power of You programme at London Business School alongside my peers. I attended four sessions where we were introduced to and led by a number of LBS alumni, lecturers and experts.
The programme focused on transferable skills and how we, as girls soon entering the world of work and higher education, can better ourselves and improve our confidence not only professionally but also personally as we present ourselves with all the skills and values that we were taught to appreciate. We were taught valuable lessons in confidence, leadership, team-building, storytelling, networking and general proficiency within both academic and work environments. We all came out of our shells significantly and made friends with our peers over the weeks and I can confidently say that the programme was thoroughly enjoyed by the five of us who were lucky to attend.
