Big smiles and big ideas: Year 8s meet inventor at Imperial College's Great Exhibition workshop

Last term, some of our Year 8 Science students were selected for the Great Exhibition Workshop, facilitated by Big Ideas and Imperial College.

TY8 Great Exhibition 2025 c copyhe Great Exhibition is a fun, cross-curricular research and innovation project for schools and community groups in London, for which students are mentored by world class Imperial College London researchers.

The project is inspired by the Great Exhibition of 1851, which showcased inventions from the best thinkers of the time, who, through their designs, sought to respond to the changing world around them in new and imaginative ways.

Our students enjoyed the opportunity to meet Scientist/Inventor, Dr Marina Strocchi from Imperial College, who has a background in bioengineering.  Along with the organisation Big Ideas, she challenged our students to become ‘Great Innovators’.

Ms Chen, our Deputy Director of Learning for Science, who organised the workshop at WA, was extremely proud of the Year 8s and happy that it put ‘such big smiles on their faces’!

The students' work will be showcased at the Great Exhibition festival, which is happening on June 7th and 8th. If you are free that weekend, please take a look! You can register for free here.
