Post-16 exams update: outstanding outcomes for IBCP students

Following exceptional IB results this summer, today Westminster Academy celebrates further Sixth Form success as BTEC Level 3 Diploma results and more university destinations are confirmed.

Over 60% of students at the school have received offers to Russell Group universities, including four students who achieved places at Oxford or Cambridge.

WA IB Results 2025 6The pass rate for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) was 96%, exceeding both the global average of 80%, and the national average of 95.51%.

The school’s International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme (IBCP) graduates also excelled with a pass rate of 92% - well above the UK average of 81.4% and the world average of 74.9%. Today they celebrated an impressive set of Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma results: 100% of students passed, confirming offers for top universities around the UK. A record 15 IBCP students will be progressing to Russell Group universities, including three students progressing to UCL and others to King’s, Exeter, Queen Mary, and Manchester to study courses such as Law, Accounting and Finance, and Applied Medical Science. These exceptional outcomes have been secured once again by very high levels of attainment, with 66% of students achieving a grade of Distinction or better, compared to 35% nationally. This included nine students who achieved an exceptional D*D*D and one, Jacques Tallleur-Ulrich, who achieved the highest possible grade of D*D*D*.

IBCP students study a blend of at least two IB academic subjects (English and Maths), the IB Core - which includes modern foreign languages - as well as the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma. IBCP student Marissa Louis-Johnson will be taking up a place at King’s College London to study Midwifery, with her DDM in Applied Science, plus IB English and Maths. She was delighted with her results, and credited experiences she has had throughout her studies to prepare her for university. “Opportunities like Career Ready gave me skills and pushed me out of my comfort zone.” Ben Burtt, who achieved D*DD in Business, as well as IB English and Maths, was happy with his results and his decision to select the IBCP, pointing out, “The IBCP is good for university applications as we have to do more than just the BTEC Level 3.” In fact, the IB elements allowed Ben to incorporate his passion for media, such as researching mathematical data around social media and online hate crime for his Maths Internal Assessment, which helped secure him a place to study Film, Media and Cultural Studies at Lancaster University, despite not having studied Media in Key Stage 5.

IB Diploma students received their results in July and are now preparing for university places in the UK and beyond, such as Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Bath, Imperial and Warwick. The IBDP is a rigorous programme of study for which students are examined in six academic subjects, as well as the IB Core. It is more commonly taught in private schools, so as a non fee-paying community school, Westminster Academy was delighted to see an impressive five students achieve 40 or above points (out of a possible 45): Annis Coulton, Tomas Finlay Nadal, Ruari Naidoo, Baseer Rajabov and Ronald Stillwell.
